I wanted to create a poster that talks about social media addiction. The assets were mainly from Pexels.
I decided to split the head to portray how the different social elements live in our head. I distorted the mixed paint image so that the perspective is correct and used the smudge too to blend the edges out. I also played with various filters to add the textures. The auto remove background worked like a charm for most of the assets, for some I had to use the lasso tool to carefully select the object.

Exercise 2

: Dream Room

Dream Room

It's just me and Mount Fuji kind-of aesthetics.

Elements:
1. Feature Ceiling
2. Mount Fuji Window View
3. Black Cabinet
4. Expensive Green Couch
5. Hydroponics Wall
6. Steinway or Spiral Staircase
7. Laminate Floor
8. Pablo Picasso's Guernica Rug

The challenging part of this exercise was to put the feature ceiling and the window + cabinet in the correct perspective as I had to distort from a front view. I added some shadow for the elements using black fill + gaussian blur.
Initially the elements had very contrasting colour palette, I had to adjust the colours with hue and saturation so that the overall composition will be more balanced.

Exercise 3
: Microworld

Elements:
1. Rainbow Cake
2. Whipped Cream
3. Cherry
4. Rainbow Lollipop
5. Grass Frosting
6. Graham Cracker Crust

Step 1: Cake base

I managed to find a rectangle rainbow cake and individual got the various faces to distort into place. This took awhile as some assets did not work as well because of the awkward POV which doesn't suit the perspective of the microworld.

Step 2: Decorate
The jello river was the hardest as I had to use the brush tool to make it more realistic by drawing shadows to give it depth. I also added a darker rim to the graham cracker sand as sand appears darker in colour when it comes into contact with water. I wanted the gummy bears to have their own world so I added a few gummy bears to do their own little things - gummy bears digging the frosting grass, gummy bears floating in jello lake with donut float and gummy bear sun tanning on a rainbow belt candy. I kept all the elements to dessert and sweets theme to fit the overall theme.

6. Graham Cracker Crust
7. Umbrella Decor
8. Rainbow Belt
9. Donut
10. Blue Jello
11. Gummy Bears
12. Wafer Castle

Switching between black and white for masking was useful as the auto remove background tool sometimes miss out pieces of the artwork. For instance these ice cream cones, I had to use this method to give clean lines.

Reflection

This exercise was such a cool chance to just mess around without worrying about getting things right or wrong. It felt freeing to just explore different tools and techniques without the pressure of creating something perfect. I tried things I wouldn't normally go for (eg. pink dessert land) and ended up learning a lot along the way. This really pushed me to loosen up and have more fun with the process.
